TL;DR: 76 of Oklahoma's 257 OkTAP-registered private schools have an address in Tulsa, Wagoner, Rogers or Creek County, according to the Tax Commission file dated September 3, 2026. South Tulsa and midtown hold the most. Nine schools we found in federal or state records are not on the file, so check before you count on the credit.
How many schools in the four Tulsa counties can accept the Oklahoma tax credit?
Seventy-six. Count the rows with a Tulsa, Wagoner, Rogers or Creek County address in the OkTAP registration file the Tax Commission posted with a September 3, 2026 date, and that is the number you get. Statewide the file has 257 schools, so the four counties account for a little under 30% of the state's participating campuses.
By county, 64 of the 76 are in Tulsa County, five are in Rogers County, six are in Creek County and one, a Broken Arrow school in ZIP 74014, falls in Wagoner County. Our own directory, which also pulls in the federal Private School Survey and OSDE's special-needs list, counts 85 private schools in the same four counties. You can browse every one, with its status on both state lists, in the Tulsa-area school directory.
Being on this file matters for one practical reason: only a registered school can send you the Enrollment Verification Number that the OkTAP application requires. No EVN, no application.
Which parts of the metro have the most registered schools?
South Tulsa and the midtown-Brookside corridor lead, with 14 and 13 registered schools. The table below sorts every school in our directory into one of nine areas by ZIP code, plus a small group that gave the Tax Commission only a post office box.
| Area | Private schools in our directory | On the tax credit file | Also LNH approved |
|---|---|---|---|
| Midtown, Brookside & Downtown Tulsa | 14 | 13 | 7 |
| South Tulsa, Bixby & Jenks | 15 | 14 | 8 |
| East Tulsa | 12 | 11 | 3 |
| North Tulsa & Kendall-Whittier | 6 | 5 | 2 |
| West Tulsa & Sand Springs | 8 | 7 | 1 |
| Broken Arrow | 10 | 7 | 4 |
| Owasso, Sperry & north Tulsa County | 5 | 5 | 0 |
| Claremore & Rogers County | 6 | 5 | 1 |
| Sapulpa, Bristow & Creek County | 6 | 6 | 1 |
| Tulsa post office box only | 3 | 3 | 0 |
A few patterns stand out. Every school we found in Owasso, Sperry and Creek County is registered. Broken Arrow has the most unlisted rows, three of ten, and two of them have simple explanations: Summit Christian Academy's west campus appears separately in the federal survey while its main campus holds the registration, and one early-childhood program reports only pre-K and kindergarten. The third is known only from the 2021-22 federal survey. Each area has its own page, such as Broken Arrow private schools and South Tulsa, Bixby and Jenks.
Which Tulsa private schools are missing from the tax credit file?
Nine schools we track are absent from the September 3 file, which gives no reasons. The usual reasons are that a school isn't accredited by a State Board-approved body, hasn't registered on OkTAP for the year, serves only children too young for the credit, or has changed or closed since the federal survey.
- Two programs whose records stop at pre-K or kindergarten, Destiny's Learning Academy and Weekday Early Education.
- Summit Christian Academy's west campus, which sits under the registered main campus.
- Three schools known only from the 2021-22 federal survey: Instituto Bilingüe Guadalupano, Tulsa Hope Academy and New Covenant Academy.
- Hope Harbor Children's Home Academy in Claremore and Phoenix Academic Center in Sand Springs.
- Greenwood Academy, which is approved for the LNH special-needs scholarship but does not appear on the tax credit file.
If one of these is your school, call the office and ask directly whether it plans to register for 2027-28.
Registered for the tax credit vs approved for LNH: what's the difference?
They are separate decisions by separate agencies. The tax credit list belongs to the Oklahoma Tax Commission and covers any accredited private school that registers; the Lindsey Nicole Henry list belongs to the State Department of Education and covers schools it has reviewed for serving students with disabilities.
In the four counties, 27 schools hold LNH approval and 26 of them are also registered for the credit. A school can be on one list and not the other, so a family with a child who has an IEP should check both. The LNH scholarship page explains who qualifies.
What should a Tulsa family do with this list before March 15, 2027?
Use it to confirm your school, then line up the paperwork early. The 2027-28 application opens on OkTAP at 9 a.m. on March 15, 2027 and closes at 11:59 p.m. on June 15, and the first 60 days give priority to households earning up to $150,000 and to children who already hold the credit.
- Find your school in the directory and confirm it is on the file.
- Ask the school when it will send Enrollment Verification Numbers for 2027-28.
- Pull your 2025 federal return for the AGI figure, or your benefits case number if you get SNAP, TANF or SoonerCare.
- Run the credit estimator to see what you would still owe.
The Tax Commission updates the file when schools register, so it can change before the window opens.
